sababli / tufayli
Because of, Thanks to
Sababli and tufayli mean because of. They come after a noun with no case ending: Yomgʻir sababli (because of the rain). Tufayli also means thanks to: Sizning yordamingiz tufayli (thanks to your help).
How It Works
Both words name a cause. The noun before them stays in the basic case, without -ga or -dan:
- yomgʻir sababli (because of the rain)
- kasallik tufayli (because of illness)
- sen tufayli (because of you)
Sababli is sabab (reason) plus -li, so it is literally with the reason. It is neutral and very common in news and official writing. Shu sababli means for this reason.
Tufayli covers the same ground, and it is the usual word for good causes: yordamingiz tufayli (thanks to your help). It also sits naturally after personal pronouns: sen tufayli, siz tufayli.
A whole event as the cause. Do not put a finished verb before these words. Use -gani, that is -gan with a possessive ending: Poyezd kechikkani sababli uchrashuvga ulgurmadim (Because the train was late, I didn't make it to the meeting). -gani uchun and -ganidan can express the same cause.
Chunki works differently: it joins a full clause that comes after the main one. See chunki.
