shuning uchun
So, Therefore
Shuning uchun means so or that's why. Say the reason first, then the result: Kasal edim, shuning uchun kelmadim (I was ill, so I didn't come).
How It Works
Shuning uchun links a reason to its result. The reason comes first, then shuning uchun and the result:
- Kasal edim, shuning uchun kelmadim. (I was ill, so I didn't come.)
- Avtobus kelmadi, shuning uchun taksida bordim. (The bus didn't come, so I went by taxi.)
What it is made of. The phrase is built from shu (this), the ending -ning, and the word uchun (for). So it means for this reason. Because uchun always needs a word before it, you cannot drop shuning.
A new sentence. Shuning uchun can also start a new sentence: Men oʻzbek tilini yaxshi koʻraman. Shuning uchun har kuni oʻqiyman. (I love Uzbek. That's why I study every day.)
Two orders, two words. Shuning uchun puts the reason first. Chunki puts the result first:
- Kasal edim, shuning uchun kelmadim. (reason → result)
- Kelmadim, chunki kasal edim. (result → reason)
To make it stronger, add ham: shuning uchun ham (and that is exactly why). Formal writing also uses shu sababli with the same meaning.
