Noun + hisobiga = at the expense of, thanks to: Bemor davlat hisobiga davolandi (The patient was treated at the state's expense).
How It Works
How it is built. Hisob (account, bill) + -i + -ga. The noun before it usually takes no ending, as in a noun pair without -ning: davlat hisobiga, homiylar hisobiga. With a personal pronoun, the possessive changes instead: mening hisobimga (at my expense).
Who pays. The noun names the person or body that covers the cost:
- davlat hisobiga (at the state's expense)
- homiylar hisobiga (paid for by sponsors)
- oʻz hisobiga (at one's own expense)
What makes it possible. The noun can also be a means or source: tejash hisobiga (through savings), yangi texnologiyalar hisobiga (thanks to new technologies). About people, it can sound critical, meaning at someone else's cost: boshqalar hisobiga yashamoq (to live at other people's expense).
Similar forms. Hisobidan, with -dan, names the fund that money comes out of: byudjet mablagʻlari hisobidan (from budget funds). Evaziga is a close synonym meaning in return for. Do not confuse any of these with hisobga olmoq (to take into account), which has no possessive. For a plain cause, use tufayli or natijasida.
