If in Formal Writing

Level 5Sounds Like lyāsa

The first part says what may happen, and the second part says what to do or what follows.

How It Works

Put the condition first, ending in -ल्यास. (In case of difficulty, please get in touch.)

VerbWith -ल्यास

To say "if not", put न before the verb: वेळेत अर्ज न केल्यास प्रवेश मिळणार नाही. (If the application is not made in time, admission will not be given.) With असणे, use नसल्यास.

The result can be a request, a rule or a plan:

The second part keeps its own tense. A plan takes the future: A rule takes -ावे. A general fact takes the present: (When it rains, the roads close.)

-ल्यास is formal. In speech, use जर … Do not use -ल्यास for something that already happened. A past fact takes a plain past verb.
