Future Actions

Level 3Sounds Like īna / -śīla / -̔ēla / -tīla

The future has no gender: the same form serves a man and a woman.

How It Works

The future ending tells you who will act. The forms for करणे (to do) and जाणे (to go) are below.

Personकरणेजाणे
मीकरीनजाईन
तूकरशीलजाशील
तो / ती / ते (one)करेलजाईल
आम्ही / आपणकरूजाऊ
तुम्हीकरालजाल
ते (many), आजीकरतीलजातील

One form serves every gender. मी जाईन is said by both men and women, and तू जाशील is said to both.

A verb whose stem ends in a vowel adds the ending with a glide, as in जाईन and येईन. A stem that ends in ह also takes -ी in the written standard: राहील, पाहील. A respectful plural uses the plural form: आजी येतील.

The future also makes a guess: ती आता घरी असेल. (She must be home now.)

For a clear plan with a time, speakers often prefer -णार आहे. Both forms refer to the future.
