पड़ब

Having to

Level 2Sounds Like paṛaba

The -ए form with पड़ब says that someone has to do something.

How It Works

TimeExample
futureहमरा जाए पड़त।
pastहमरा जाए पड़ल।
present habitहमरा रोज जाए पड़ैत अछि।

The person who has to act is हमरा, अहाँ केँ, ओकरा, बउआ केँ, and so on. The verb is the same for everyone (पड़त, पड़ल, पड़ैत अछि), except that a respected person takes -नि: हुनका जाए पड़लनि.

Make the infinitive by adding -ए to the stem: जाए, खाए, करए, पढ़ए. We write every infinitive this way; books also have करय or करऽ.

पड़ब fits an outside need, such as a job, weather or illness. To say you want to do something, use चाहब. To say you can, use सकब.
