हम / हम सभ
I and We
हम means I and हम सभ means we; both take छी.
How It Works
हम is the word for I. To say we, put सभ after it: हम सभ.
| Maithili | Meaning |
|---|---|
| हम गाम मे छी। | I am in the village. |
| हम सभ गाम मे छी। | We are in the village. |
The verb is छी for both. Maithili verbs do not change for the speaker's gender, so a man and a woman say the same thing: हम ठीक छी.
Before a postposition, हम changes to हमरा: हमरा लग (with me), हमरा सँ (from me). The "we" form is हमरा सभ: हमरा सभ केँ (to us).
The possessive is हमर (my) and हमरा सभक (our): हमर घर, हमरा सभक घर.
Hindi speakers should not use मैं or हम with हैं. Say हम and छी.
