The Future for Everyone Else

Level 2Sounds Like jā'ēta ā jētāha

For other people, the future ends in -त, or -ताह for someone you respect.

How It Works

VerbPlain personRespected person

जाएब changes to जेताह, but करब, पढ़ब and देखब just add -ताह. खाएब changes the same way, to खेताह.

The rare form -तीह for a respected woman exists in books, such as करतीह. Lessons here use -ताह for both.

Use -त for children, animals, things and people you do not need to honour: बस जाएत, बरखा होएत. Put नहि before the verb for the negative: ओ नहि करत.

Examples (5)

The bus will leave at ten.

    Uncle will go tomorrow.

जेताह is for a respected person.

    Father will call tomorrow.

करताह adds -ताह to the stem.

Common Mistakes

  • Using -ब with a third person.

-ब is only for हम and अहाँ.
