हमरा लग ... अछि

Having Something

Level 1Sounds Like hamarā laga ... achi

Say who has something with लग and अछि; for family, leave out लग.

How It Works

Maithili says "near me there is a bicycle" for I have a bicycle.

OwnerForm
Iहमरा लग
youअहाँ लग
he or she (plain)ओकरा लग

Use this for things you carry or own: हमरा लग एकटा साइकिल अछि. The owner takes its object form (हमरा), not the possessive (हमर).

For family and the body, leave out लग: हमरा एकटा छोट भाइ अछि, हमरा दूटा छोट बहिन अछि.

For someone you respect, the pattern uses a different ending and is covered later: हुनका ... छनि.

Speech often says छैक instead of अछि.

Do not use the Hindi मेरे पास.

Common Mistakes

    हमरा लग एकटा साइकिल अछि।

Use the object form हमरा, not हमर.
