-ის წინ
In Front of and Ago
After a genitive, წინ means in front of, before, or ago.
How It Works
| Use | Georgian | English |
|---|---|---|
| place | სახლის წინ | in front of the house |
| place | თეატრის წინ | in front of the theater |
| time | გაკვეთილის წინ | before the lesson |
| time | ვახშმის წინ | before dinner |
| ago | ორი წლის წინ | two years ago |
| ago | ხუთი წუთის წინ | five minutes ago |
Since წინ follows a genitive, all the genitive rules apply: დედა gives დედის წინ, and ვახშამი gives ვახშმის წინ.
For ago, the number stays as it is and the time word takes -ის: სამი დღის წინ (three days ago).
The opposite of in front of is უკან (behind), and the opposite of before is შემდეგ (after).
