-ის გარდა
Except and Besides
Put გარდა after a genitive to say except or besides.
How It Works
| Except | Besides |
|---|---|
| ყველა წავიდა ნინოს გარდა. (Everyone left except Nino.) | ნინოს გარდა ანაც წავიდა. (Besides Nino, Ana left too.) |
The -ც in ანაც tells you that გარდა (garda) adds a person here instead of leaving one out.
ამის გარდა (besides this) adds one more point to what you said: ამის გარდა, ძალიან ძვირია (besides that, it's very expensive).
The genitive follows the usual rules: ხინკალი loses a vowel (ხინკლის გარდა), and most words in -ო add -ს (ლობიოს გარდა).
In questions, გარდა goes well with კიდევ (else): კიდევ ვინ იყო ნინოს გარდა? (Who else was there besides Nino?)
