-ის დროს
During
After a genitive or a verbal noun, დროს means during: ჭამის დროს (during the meal).
How It Works
დროს (dros) means during. It comes after a word in the genitive (-ის):
- ჭამა (eating) gives ჭამის დროს (while eating, during the meal);
- გაკვეთილი (lesson) gives გაკვეთილის დროს (during the lesson);
- რთველი (grape harvest) gives რთველის დროს (during the harvest).
დროს is the dative of დრო (time), so the phrase means at the time of. It works with ordinary nouns and with verbal nouns, so you can say during almost anything: მოგზაურობის დროს (while traveling).
A noun in -ა drops it before -ის, as usual: ჭამა, ჭამის.
Without a genitive, the same word appears in იმ დროს (at that time).
