-ის გარეშე
Without
Put a noun in the genitive -ის, then add გარეშე, to say without it.
How It Works
Georgian puts this word after the noun, not before it. First put the noun in the genitive with -ის, then add გარეშე (gareshe, without).
| Noun | Without it |
|---|---|
| შაქარი (sugar) | შაქრის გარეშე |
| რძე (milk) | რძის გარეშე |
| ქოლგა (umbrella) | ქოლგის გარეშე |
| მე (I) | ჩემ გარეშე (without me) |
| შენ (you) | შენ გარეშე (without you) |
The genitive follows its usual rules. Some words lose a vowel, so შაქარი becomes შაქრის. Most nouns that end in -ა or -ე drop that vowel, so რძე becomes რძის.
This phrase is handy in a café: ჩაი რძის გარეშე (tea without milk). The whole phrase can go before the verb, like any other detail.
Later you will meet a short way to build words like sugar-free, with უ- at the front and -ო at the end.
