Bhojpuri Sayings

Level 5Sounds Like kahā'uta

Sayings pack advice into one short line, often with paired जइसन ... ओइसन.

How It Works

कहाउत are short, fixed sayings. They carry the common sense of a village in one line. Speakers use them in conversation to make a point.

SayingMeaning
जइसन करनी, ओइसन भरनीyou reap what you sow
जइसन देस, ओइसन भेसdo as the locals do
घर के जोगी जोगड़ा, आन गाँव के सिद्धpeople undervalue the talent close to home
नाच ना जाने, आँगन टेढ़a poor dancer blames the floor

जइसन ... ओइसन pairs two kinds, like जइसे ... ओइसे pairs two ways. Learn each saying as one piece. Tone matters: sayings can sound sharp, so use them with people you know well.
