Tense and Aspect

FoundationsSounds Like kāla ā pakṣa

Most Bhojpuri verb forms add one ending to the stem to show time and kind of action.

How It Works

Take the verb stem, such as खा (eat), and add an ending.

KindEndingExample with खा
Habit or fact-लाऊ रोज खाला
Happening now-त + बाऊ खात बा
Past-लऊ खइलस
Future-ब, -ईहम खाइब, ऊ खाई

The person endings are added after these. -त + बा becomes बानी, बाड़ऽ, बाड़ू, बा, बाड़ी or बाड़ें: खात बानी, खात बाड़ू.

A few verbs are irregular in the past: जाइल becomes गइल, करल becomes कइल. The Level 1 and 2 entries give the full sets for each.
