करेला / करेली / करेलें
He, She and They Do
For habits and facts, the verb ends in -ला for a man or a thing, -ली for a woman and -लें for a respected man or for they.
How It Works
The habit form says what someone does regularly or what is generally true.
| Who | जा | खा | कर |
|---|---|---|---|
| man, boy, thing | जाला | खाला | करेला |
| woman, girl | जाली | खाली | करेली |
| respected man, more than one | जालें | खालें | करेलें |
Stems that end in a consonant add -ेला (करेला, पढ़ेला). Some stems that end in a vowel add -ला (जाला, खाला); others add -वे or -ये first (गावेला, पियेला).
Add ना before the verb to say doesn't: ऊ चाय ना पियेला (he doesn't drink tea).
The -त बा form is the usual way to say what is happening right now. Speech also uses it for habits, so you will hear both.
