-एकाले

Because, In Writing

Level 5Sounds Like ēkālē

The stem plus -एकाले means because. It joins two clauses and belongs to written Nepali.

How It Works

The reason is the -एको form of the verb (the perfect participle) followed by ले, written as one word: परेकाले, भएकाले, बढेकाले. The clause that follows gives the result.

ReasonResult
पानी परेकालेबाटो बन्द भयो।
उनी बिरामी भएकालेकार्यक्रममा आउन सकिनन्।

The negative uses न- and then the same ending: समयमा नपुगेकाले मैले बस छुटाएँ (because I did not arrive on time, I missed the bus).

The two clauses may have different subjects. A speaker would more often put the reason second with किनभने: बाटो बन्द भयो, किनभने पानी पर्‍यो. -एकाले is for print.
