Saying What Something Is

Level 1Sounds Like hō

Use हो to say who or what someone or something is.

How It Works

हो tells what something is. It joins two nouns. Where something is and what a thing is like take छ. One exception comes later: a judgment about an action, such as

DoerFormExample

Use हो for names, jobs, nationalities and kinds: मेरो नाम सरिता हो, म नेपाली हुँ, यो चिया हो.

Do not use छ for these. For where something is and what it is like, Nepali uses छ instead.
