-नेछु

The Formal Future

Level 2Sounds Like nēchu

-नेछ makes a promise or an announcement about the future.

How It Works

Nepali has a firm future and a guessing future. This one is firm and a little formal. People use it in promises and notices, and in speech when they want to sound sure.

Doerआउनुगर्नु
मआउनेछुगर्नेछु
हामीआउनेछौँगर्नेछौँ

ऊआउनेछगर्नेछ

तपाईं, उहाँआउनुहुनेछगर्नुहुनेछ

A woman takes -नेछे as ऊ and -नेछिन् as उनी: उनी भोलि आउनेछिन्.

To say will not, add छैन. You will see it written as two words, म आउने छैन, and as one word, आउनेछैन.

The other future, -ला, says what will probably happen. -नेछु means what you will do. In everyday talk, many people use the plain present for near plans: म भोलि आउँछु.

Examples (5)

    -नेछौँ goes with हामी.

They will go to Kathmandu tomorrow.

The negative can be written as two words, -ने छैन, or as one, -नेछैन.

  • Using the plain ending for तपाईं.

    तपाईं भोलि आउनेछ।
    तपाईं भोलि आउनुहुनेछ।

तपाईं needs the respect form -नुहुनेछ.
