-नुहुन्छ

Polite Present with तपाईं

Level 1Sounds Like nuhuncha

One polite ending works for any verb with a polite subject.

How It Works

-नुहुन्छ is the polite ending of the simple present. Add it to the stem.

VerbStemPolite present
गर्नुगर्गर्नुहुन्छ
पिउनुपिउपिउनुहुन्छ
जानुजाजानुहुन्छ
खानुखाखानुहुन्छ

There is no stem change here. जानुहुन्छ and खानुहुन्छ have no extra न्, and पिउनुहुन्छ has no chandrabindu.

Use -नुहुन्छ with तपाईं and उहाँ, with teachers, elders and customers, and with a mother or father. It is the same for a man and a woman: उहाँ चिया पिउनुहुन्छ can be about either.

Verbs such as मन पर्छ and चाहिन्छ do not take -नुहुन्छ, because they follow the thing, not the person: तपाईंलाई चिया मन पर्छ?

Do not mix the polite verb with तिमी. तपाईं takes -नुहुन्छ, and तिमी takes -छौ.

    तपाईं चिया पिउनुहुन्छ?

    तपाईं needs -नुहुन्छ. -छौ belongs to तिमी.
