-ত for In and At
In and at: -ত
-ত means “in” or “at”: মা পাকঘৰত আছে “mother is in the kitchen”.
How It Works
The ending -ত tells where something is. It stays the same for every place.
| Place | With -ত | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| ঘৰ | ঘৰত | at home, in the house |
| পাকঘৰ | পাকঘৰত | in the kitchen |
| স্কুল | স্কুলত | at school |
| গুৱাহাটী | গুৱাহাটীত | in Guwahati |
| টেবুল | টেবুলত | on the table |
The question word ক’ত “where” is usually answered by a word with -ত. Words such as ইয়াত “here” and তাত “there” already contain -ত.
If the place word has a classifier, -ত goes at the very end, as in ঘৰখনত “in the house”.
The verb আছে often follows a word with -ত, as in ঘৰত আছে “is at home”.
