সি / তাই
He and She
তাই চাহ খায় “she drinks tea” and সি চাহ খায় “he drinks tea” use the same verb.
How It Works
These two words show the gender of the person. The verb does not.
| Word | Meaning | Verb ending | Example |
|---|---|---|---|
| সি | he | -ে, written -য় after a vowel | সি ভাত খায় “he eats rice” |
| তাই | she | -ে, written -য় after a vowel | তাই চাহ খায় “she drinks tea” |
Both words take the same ending as আপুনি: -ে after a consonant stem, as in সি কাম কৰে, and -য় after a vowel stem, as in খায় and যায়.
These words are familiar. To speak about an older person, a teacher or a guest, use তেওঁ.
When you talk to the person, use তুমি or আপুনি. The words সি and তাই are for people you talk about.
