কৰ “do” gives মই কৰোঁ, তুমি কৰা and তেওঁ কৰে.

How It Works

Here is the verb কৰ “do” with the endings you need now. The very close তই form comes at a later level.

WhoEndingForm
মই, আমি-ওঁকৰোঁ
তুমি-াকৰা
আপুনি, তেওঁ, সি, তাই-েকৰে

The same endings work for most verbs: মই কাম কৰোঁ “I work”, তুমি কাম কৰা “you work”, আপুনি কাম কৰে “you work”.

The verb does not change for one person or many, and it does not change for a boy or a girl. After the nasal consonants ঙ, ঞ, ণ, ন and ম, the ending ওঁ loses its mark, as in জানো.

The stem কৰ is a consonant stem, so the endings join it directly. Verbs with a vowel stem, such as খা and যা, change a little, and the next lessons show them.

Examples (5)

  1. মই কাম কৰোঁ।

    I work.

    মই takes the ending -ওঁ.

  2. তুমি কাম কৰা।

    You work. (to a friend)

    তুমি takes the ending -া.

  3. আপুনি কাম কৰে।

    You work. (respectful)

    আপুনি takes the ending -ে.

  4. সি কাম কৰে।

    He works.

    সি takes the same -ে as আপুনি.

Common Mistakes

  • Using the ending for সি with মই.

    মই কৰে।
    মই কৰোঁ।

After মই the ending is ওঁ. The ending -ে is for আপুনি, তেওঁ, সি and তাই.

  • Using the ending for তুমি with আপুনি.

    আপুনি কৰা।
    আপুনি কৰে।

আপুনি is respectful and takes -ে. The ending -া belongs to তুমি.
