Perfective Verb + ہوگا
A Completed Event Assumed or Expected
Combine the completed-event form with the appropriate ہوگا auxiliary.
How It Works
A ne-marked doer does not select the auxiliary’s person ending. In میں نے خط لکھا ہوگا, masculine خط controls the phrase; the speaker does not replace ہوگا with ہوں گا.
With an unmarked intransitive subject, agreement follows that subject: مریم پہنچی ہوگی. A feminine object in a ne-marked clause instead gives a form such as کہانی لکھی ہوگی.
Keep inference separate from certainty. A presumed earlier event is not confirmed merely because its verb has a perfective form. A future completion depends on the time established by the sentence.
Examples (4)
- مریم نے خط لکھا ہوگا۔
Maryam probably wrote the letter.
The unmarked masculine object controls لکھا ہوگا.
- بلال نے کہانی پڑھی ہوگی۔
Bilal probably read the story.
Feminine کہانی selects پڑھی ہوگی.
- وہ اب تک گھر پہنچے ہوں گے۔
They have probably reached home by now.
The unmarked group controls پہنچے ہوں گے.
- کل تک ہم نے کام مکمل کیا ہوگا۔
By tomorrow, we will have completed the work.
The explicit future boundary gives an expected-completion reading.
Common Mistakes
Making a ne-marked first person control the auxiliary.
میں نے خط لکھا ہوں گا۔میں نے خط لکھا ہوگا۔The unmarked masculine letter controls the perfective and its auxiliary; میں نے does not.
