ہوگا
Inferring a Present Situation
Use context to distinguish an inference from a future statement.
How It Works
With an unmarked feminine subject, use ہوگی; plural or respectful agreement can give ہوں گے. In a کو construction, agreement instead follows the relevant unmarked noun, as with masculine علم below. An inferred meaning does not change these agreement rules.
An explicit future phrase can instead make the same auxiliary part of an ordinary future statement. The sentence’s setting resolves the meaning.
English “must be” can sometimes convey a strong inference, but it may sound stronger than the Urdu context warrants. This use is not an obligation and has no fixed numerical confidence.
Examples (4)
- بلال گھر پر ہوگا۔
Bilal is probably at home.
The speaker infers his present location.
- مریم ابھی مصروف ہوگی۔
Maryam is probably busy now.
The feminine ending follows Maryam.
- آپ کو اس کا علم ہوگا۔
You probably know about it.
Masculine علم controls ہوگا in this کو construction, despite respectful آپ.
- یہی وجہ ہوگی۔
This is probably the reason.
Feminine وجہ selects ہوگی.
