буду + Infinitive
Analytic Future of Imperfective Verbs
The analytic future is the most common way to say 'I will [do something]' in Ukrainian when the action is ongoing, repeated, or general. It is formed by: бути (conjugated) + infinitive.
How It Works
The analytic future (складена форма) is one of two ways to express the future for imperfective verbs. It is neutral, widely used in all regions, and very easy to form.
1. Formation:
You must conjugate the auxiliary verb бути (to be) and add the imperfective infinitive:
- Я буду працювати (I will work)
- Ти будеш працювати (You will work)
- Він/вона/воно буде працювати (He/she/it will work)
- Ми будемо працювати (We will work)
- Ви будете працювати (You will work - pl./formal)
- Вони будуть працювати (They will work)
2. Usage:
Use this form when you want to emphasize:
- Process: 'I will be sleeping all day.'
- Repetition: 'I will visit you every week.'
- General Intent: 'I will work tomorrow' (without focusing on finishing a specific task).
3. Comparison:
This form is functionally identical to the synthetic future (e.g., працюватиму). While both are correct, the analytic form (буду працювати) is often preferred in speech because it is simpler to construct.

Common Mistakes
Using a perfective infinitive with 'бути'.
Я буду прочитати цю книгу.Я прочитаю цю книгу.You cannot use 'бути' with perfective verbs. Perfective verbs form the future by using present-tense endings (прочитаю). Use 'буду' only with imperfective infinitives (читати).
Combining the analytic and synthetic forms.
Я буду читатиму.Я буду читати.You must choose one: either the 'буду' + infinitive form OR the synthetic '-тиму' form. Do not use both at once.
Omitting the auxiliary verb 'бути'.
Я завтра працювати.Я завтра буду працювати.Unlike the past tense, the future tense requires either the auxiliary 'бути' or the specific synthetic suffix to indicate time.
