एकअर्का

Each Other

Level 3Sounds Like ēka'arkā

एकअर्का is each other.

How It Works

एकअर्का is made of एक (one) and अर्का (the other), and it is written as one word. It names the other member of a pair or group, so the doers are two or more people or groups: उनीहरू, हामी, तिमीहरू.

Add the postposition straight on the end:

  • एकअर्कालाई (each other, as the receiver).
  • एकअर्कासँग (with each other).
  • एकअर्काको (each other's).

Example: साथीहरू एकअर्काको घर जान्छन् (friends visit each other's homes).

It is not the same as आफैँ. आफैँ means by oneself, while एकअर्का needs a pair or a group who act on one another.

Common Mistakes

  • A learner uses आफू (oneself) for each other.

    उनीहरू आफूलाई मद्दत गर्छन्।
    उनीहरू एकअर्कालाई मद्दत गर्छन्।

आफूलाई means themselves, so the first sentence says they help themselves.
