आफैँ

By Oneself

Level 3Sounds Like āphaim̐

आफैँ stresses that the doer acted alone.

How It Works

आफैँ means by oneself, on one's own or in person. It is a small stress word, like English myself in I did it myself.

It does not change for person. The doer before it shows who is meant:

  • मैले आफैँ बनाएँ (I made it myself).
  • तपाईं आफैँ गर्नुहुन्छ? (do you do it yourself?).
  • सरिता आफैँ आइन् (Sarita came herself).

With a thing as the subject, आफैँ means by itself, with no one touching it: ढोका आफैँ खुल्यो.

Do not mix it up with आफ्नो, which means one's own and goes before a noun: आफ्नो घर.
