हामी / तिमीहरू / उनीहरू

Plural Pronouns

Level 1Sounds Like hāmī, timīharū ra unīharū

Add हरू to a pronoun to make it plural. हामी is already plural, so it usually takes no हरू.

How It Works

हरू is the plural ending, and it is written joined to the word. Pronouns follow the same rule.

OneMany“go”
महामीजान्छौँ
तिमीतिमीहरूजान्छौ
तपाईंतपाईंहरूजानुहुन्छ
ऊ, उनीउनीहरूजान्छन्

The verb does not change from singular to plural for तिमी and तपाईं. The forms तिमीहरू जान्छौ and तपाईंहरू जानुहुन्छ look just like the singular ones, so the plural pronoun is the only clue.

उनीहरू covers both men and women. For a mixed or unknown group, उनीहरू is the default word for they. The verb takes -छन्: उनीहरू जान्छन्. Usually leave हामी as it is, because it is already plural. You may still hear हामीहरू, which adds emphasis. For a respected group, say उहाँहरू with -नुहुन्छ.

    तिमीहरू keeps the तिमी ending -छौ.

Common Mistakes

    उनीहरू बजार जान्छन्।

उनीहरू means they, so the verb takes the plural ending -छन्.
