बताए

Saying in Formal Reports

Level 5Sounds Like batā'ē

बताए means said in a formal report. The person who spoke takes ले, and the clause before it ends in -ने or -एको.

How It Works

The verb बताउनु means to tell. News reports use it instead of भन्नु because it sounds more formal.

SpeakerPast
a man, or several peopleबताए
a womanबताइन्
earlier statement still trueबताएका छन्

The reported words are not in quotation marks. They stand as a clause before बताए and end in -ने for the future or -एको for the past: प्रवक्ताले अहिलेसम्म कुनै क्षति नभएको बताए.

The speaker takes ले, since बताउनु is transitive. A news report uses the mid-level बताए even for one man; with a very respected person it can be बताउनुभयो.
