-ूया / चला

Let's Do Something

Level 3Sounds Like ̔ūyā / calā

The ending has no gender, so a man and a woman say the same form, and it goes with आपण.

How It Works

-ूया means "let's". It includes the listener, so it goes with आपण.

VerbLet's…
जेवणेजेवूया
जाणेजाऊया
पाहणेपाहूया
घेणेघेऊया

चला means "come on" and makes the suggestion warmer: चला, जेवूया. Use it with friends and family.

Add का for a question: आज सिनेमा पाहूया का? (Shall we watch a film today?)

Write the ending as one word, with a long ू: भेटूया. Use आपण, because the speaker and the listener do it together.

आपण names who shares the action: आपण सगळे जाऊया. (Let us all go.) आम्ही leaves the listener out, so it does not fit a suggestion.

Answers are short: हो, जेवूया! (Yes, let's eat!) or नको, आता नको. (No, not now.) A reply with -ूया agrees to the plan, and नको declines it.

The suggestion has no gender. A man and a woman use the same form.

    मी उद्या भेटूया.
    आपण उद्या भेटूया.

-ूया includes the listener, so it goes with आपण.

  • Writing the vowel short.

    चला, जेवुया.
    चला, जेवूया.

The ending has a long ू.
