Can and Might

Level 3Sounds Like ū śakaṇē

शकणे follows the person like a normal verb, and the main verb stays the same.

How It Works

-ऊ शकणे says that something is possible or allowed. The first verb takes -ू after a consonant stem (करू) or -ऊ after a vowel stem (येऊ) and does not change. Only शकणे changes.

PersonForm

For no, put नाही after शकत: आम्ही आज हे काम करू शकत नाही. In the past, शकला or शकली agrees with the subject: तो काल जाऊ शकला नाही.

Ask a polite question with the future: (Could you come tomorrow?)

-ता येणे is the pattern for a learned skill such as swimming. -ऊ शकणे is the general pattern for possibility.

The verb before शकणे takes -ऊ.

  • Misplacing
