What Should Have Happened
The sentence is about the past, and it carries a mild regret.
How It Works
Say what you wish had happened. तू आधी सांगायला हवे होतेस. (You should have told me earlier.)

The person with the duty can take -ला, or can stand as the subject with the -स ending when it is तू. तुला सांगायला हवे होते and तू सांगायला हवे होतेस both work. With a feminine object the -स goes on होती: तू छत्री घ्यायला हवी होतीस.
होते puts the wish in the past. For something that is still ahead, leave होते out: तुला आज सांगायला हवे. (You should say it today.)
To say what should not have happened, use नको: तुला तिथे जायला नको होते. (You should not have gone there.) Here नको is the form for both a man and a woman.

- आईला वेळेवर औषध द्यायला हवे होते.
Mother should have been given her medicine on time.
हवे matches the neuter word औषध.
Common Mistakes
Not matching हवा, हवी or हवे to the object.
तुला छत्री घ्यायला हवे होते.तुला छत्री घ्यायला हवी होती.छत्री is feminine, so the form is हवी होती.
Using the Hindi pattern चाहिए था.
तू आधी सांगायला चाहिए होतेस.तू आधी सांगायला हवे होतेस.चाहिए is Hindi. Marathi says हवे.
