რაც უნდა with the optative means whatever: რაც უნდა მოხდეს (whatever happens).

რაც უნდა (rats unda) means whatever. The verb after it is in the optative:

Here უნდა does not mean must: the whole phrase means no matter. ვინც უნდა იყოს, კარს ნუ გააღებ (whoever it is, don't open the door).

Speakers very often add არ, and the meaning stays the same: რაც არ უნდა მოხდეს (whatever happens).

With an adjective, რაც უნდა means however: რაც უნდა ძვირი იყოს, ამ წიგნს მაინც ვიყიდი (however expensive it is, I'll still buy this book).
