ვ- (I and We)
The I and We Marker
ვ- at the front of a verb shows that the doer is I or we.
How It Works
| write | live | be | |
|---|---|---|---|
| I | ვწერ | ვცხოვრობ | ვარ |
| we | ვწერთ | ვცხოვრობთ | ვართ |
Feeling verbs and the verbs for wanting and having work differently. With მიყვარს (I love), მინდა (I want) and მაქვს (I have), the person shows with მ-, not ვ-. For we, these verbs use გვ-: გვიყვარს (we love).
არ and ვერ go before the ვ-: არ ვიცი (I don't know), ვერ ვხედავ (I can't see).
When you hear ვ- at the start of a verb, you know the speaker is talking about themselves.
You have already met ვ- in ვარ (I am) and ვართ (we are), and you will see it again in ვიცი (I know).
