Yes-or-No Questions
A yes-or-no question has the same words as the statement, said with a rising voice.
How It Works
| Statement | Question |
|---|---|
| ნინო სახლში არის. (Nino is at home.) | ნინო სახლში არის? (Is Nino at home?) |
| შენ სტუდენტი ხარ. (You're a student.) | შენ სტუდენტი ხარ? (Are you a student?) |
| ქართული იცი. (You know Georgian.) | ქართული იცი? (Do you know Georgian?) |
English adds do or moves the verb. Georgian does neither: the statement simply becomes a question.
A short answer often repeats the verb: ყავა გინდა? კი, მინდა (Do you want coffee? Yes, I do).
Questions with a question word such as სად or რა work differently: the question word goes right before the verb.
