მას შემდეგ, რაც
After, With a Clause
მას შემდეგ, რაც joins a whole clause and means after.
How It Works
| Time | Example |
|---|---|
| past | მას შემდეგ, რაც სკოლა დავამთავრე, თბილისში გადავედი. (After I finished school, I moved to Tbilisi.) |
| future | მას შემდეგ, რაც ვივახშმებთ, კინოში წავიდეთ. (After we have dinner, let's go to the movies.) |
| since | მას შემდეგ, რაც ძაღლი ვიყიდეთ, ყოველ დილას ვსეირნობთ. (Since we got a dog, we walk every morning.) |
მას is a form of ის (that), so the phrase means after that, and რაც tells you what that is.
For a future event, Georgian uses the future after რაც, where English uses the present: ვივახშმებთ (we will have dinner).
მას შემდეგ can also stand before the verb, with the რაც clause at the end: ლუკამ მას შემდეგ დარეკა, რაც ყველა წავიდა (Luka called after everyone had left).
For a noun, the shorter -ის შემდეგ is enough: სკოლის შემდეგ (after school), ვახშმის შემდეგ (after dinner).
