खिआवल / पिआवल

Feeding and Giving a Drink

Level 4Sounds Like khi'āvala ā pi'āvala

Some causatives change the stem: खाइल gives खिआवल (to feed) and पीयल gives पिआवल.

How It Works

Two common verbs do not just add -आव. They change the vowel first.

Base verbCausativePast (ऊ)
खाइल (eat)खिआवल (feed)खिअवलस
पीयल (drink)पिआवल (give to drink)पिअवलस

The subject gives, and the one who receives takes के: माई लइका के दूध पिआवेली.

Other forms follow the usual endings: खिआवत बानी, पिआवेला, पिअवनी.

Do not use the base verb when you mean to give: पियेला means drinks, not gives a drink.
