तू / रउआ
You: Friendly and Respectful
Say तू to friends and younger family, and रउआ to elders and strangers.
How It Works
Bhojpuri has two everyday words for you.
| तू | रउआ | |
|---|---|---|
| Use with | friends, siblings, younger family | elders, strangers, customers |
| is (place) | बाड़ऽ, बाड़ू | बानी |
| goes (habit) | जालऽ, जालू | जाइले |
| go! (command) | जा | जाईं |
With तू, the verb shows if the person spoken to is a man or a woman. With रउआ, it does not.
Before a postposition, तू becomes तोहरा and रउआ becomes रउरा. The possessives are तोहार and राउर.
If you are unsure, say रउआ. It never offends. Keep one choice for each pair of speakers, so a child says रउआ to a grandmother, even when she says तू back.
