जबले ... तबले

Until and as Long as

Level 4Sounds Like jabalē ... tabalē

जबले ... तबले links two stretches of time: until or as long as.

How It Works

जबले ... तबले does two jobs.

  • Until: जबले तू ना अइबऽ, तबले हम इहें रहब. (I will stay here until you come.)
  • As long as: जबले माई बाड़ी, तबले हमरा चिंता नइखे. (As long as Mother is here, I have no worry.)

For "until", the first verb is negative. The second half takes ना only when its own meaning is negative: तबले ऊ ना सुती.

जबले is the Bhojpuri word. Hindi says जब तक ... तब तक. The parts are related to जब ... त (when ... then), but जबले stretches over a period of time.

You can drop तबले: जबले बरखा होई, इहें रुकीं means stay here as long as it rains.
