যাতে
So That: যাতে
যাতে means “so that”: ছাতিটো লৈ যাওঁ যাতে মই তিতি নাযাওঁ “I take the umbrella so that I do not get wet”.
How It Works
যাতে opens a new clause, so the goal can have a doer of its own. The verb after it keeps the usual endings for the person.
| The goal is | Example |
|---|---|
| something wanted | মোক কেইটামান আপেল লাগে যাতে মই এটা আপেল “পাই” বনাব পাৰোঁ “I need some apples so that I can make an apple pie” |
| something to avoid | সাৱধান হ’বা যাতে ল’ৰাটো পানীত নপৰে “be careful that the boy does not fall in the water” |
The ending -বলৈ “in order to” gives a goal to the same verb, as in চাবলৈ “to see”. যাতে starts a full clause of its own, so use it when the goal needs a verb with its own ending.
The word is common in instructions and advice, and in news writing about measures taken so that something is prevented.
