Future Verb Endings

Level 2Sounds Like karaima / karaibā / karaiba

The future of a verb such as কৰ ends in -িম, -িবা or -িব, by person.

How It Works

The future needs no helper word. Add the ending to the stem.

PersonEndingকৰ “do”পঢ় “study”
মই, আমি-িমকৰিমপঢ়িম
তুমি-িবাকৰিবাপঢ়িবা
আপুনি, তেওঁ, সি, তাই-িবকৰিবপঢ়িব

The ending is the same for one person or many, so আমি and মই both take -িম.

This table is for stems that end in a consonant. A stem that ends in a vowel, such as যা “go”, takes -ম, -বা and -ব directly. The next row shows them.

To say that something will not happen, put ন- before the verb: তুমি নকৰিবা. For মই and আমি people mostly use the negative present instead, as in মই নাহোঁ “I will not come”.
