কাৰণ

Because: কাৰণ

Level 3Sounds Like kāraṇa

মই কালি স্কুললৈ যোৱা নাছিলোঁ, কাৰণ মোৰ জ্বৰ আছিল “I did not go to school yesterday, because I had a fever”.

How It Works

কাৰণ starts the part that explains, so it always comes before the reason.

UseMeaningExample
joins two partsbecause…, কাৰণ মোৰ জ্বৰ আছিল
a nounreasonকাৰণ আছে “there is a reason”

The noun can also carry যে to introduce a clause: সেইটোৱেই কাৰণ যে তাই আজি আহিব নোৱাৰিলে “that is the reason that she could not come today”. A comma often stands before কাৰণ. To ask for the reason, use কিয়? “why?”, and to answer, begin with কাৰণ. Where English says “because of”, Assamese often says …ৰ বাবে.
