-বলৈ
In Order to: -বলৈ
মই পানীখিনি খাবলৈ আহিছোঁ “I came to drink the water”.
How It Works
The ending -বলৈ is not a tense. It is the ending for a purpose, and it does not change with the person.
| Stem | With -বলৈ | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| পঢ় | পঢ়িবলৈ | to read, to study |
| কিন | কিনিবলৈ | to buy |
| খা | খাবলৈ | to eat, to drink |
| যা | যাবলৈ | to go |
You will see -বলৈ in several places, always before the word it goes with. Before a verb of motion, it gives the reason for going: সি বিদেশলৈ পঢ়িবলৈ গৈছে “he has gone abroad to study”. Before a noun, it tells what the thing is for: পঢ়িবলৈ এখন কিতাপ “a book to read”. Before an adjective like সাজু, it says what someone is ready for: যাবলৈ সাজু “ready to go”. Before ধৰিলে or আৰম্ভ কৰিলে, it says what began: আজি ৰাতিপুৱাই বৰষুণ দিবলৈ ধৰিলে “it started to rain early this morning”.
