Verbs stay the same for a man or a woman, and so do most describing words: সি নাযায় “he does not go”.

How It Works

If you know Hindi, you may expect the verb to change for a woman. In Assamese it does not.

ManWoman
সি নাযায়। “He does not go.”তাই নাযায়। “She does not go.”
সি বৰ ভাল। “He is very good.”তাই বৰ ভাল। “She is very good.”
সি চাহ খায়। “He drinks tea.”তাই চাহ খায়। “She drinks tea.”

What does change is the address level. The verb ending follows the pronoun: মই কৰোঁ, তুমি কৰা, আপুনি কৰে. That choice depends on the relationship, not on sex.

Most describing words behave the same way: ভাল “good” and ডাঙৰ “big” have one form. A few words borrowed from Sanskrit come in pairs, such as বুদ্ধিমান and বুদ্ধিমতী “intelligent”.
