কৰি থকা নাছিলোঁ

Not Doing at That Time

Level 3Sounds Like karai thakā nāchilōm̐

আমি তেতিয়া গান শুনি থকা নাছিলোঁ “we were not listening to songs then”.

How It Works

The positive form কৰি আছিলোঁ uses আছিল. The negative uses থকা and নাছিল instead, and the first verb gets no ন-.

PersonWas not doing
মই, আমিবিচাৰি থকা নাছিলোঁ
তুমিবিচাৰি থকা নাছিলা
সি, তাই, তেওঁবিচাৰি থকা নাছিল
আপুনিবিচাৰি থকা নাছিলে

Here থকা is the -া form of থাক “to stay”. It only shows that the action was going on. Compare বিচাৰি আছিলোঁ “I was looking” and বিচাৰি থকা নাছিলোঁ “I was not looking”. Do not confuse it with কৰা নাছিলোঁ, which means “had not done”. In that pattern the verb takes -া and there is no থকা.

Examples (4)
