কৰি থকা নাই

Not Happening Right Now

Level 2Sounds Like karai thakā nā'i

-ি form + থকা নাই means “is not doing it right now”.

How It Works

The negative of কৰি আছোঁ is simpler than the positive. It has no person ending.

PositiveNegative
মই কাম কৰি আছোঁমই কাম কৰি থকা নাই
সি পঢ়ি আছেসি পঢ়ি থকা নাই
আমি থাকি আছোঁআমি থাকি থকা নাই

The words থকা নাই never change. The first word is the -ি form: কৰি, পঢ়ি, থাকি, খাই. Verbs with a changed form keep it: শুই থকা নাই “is not sleeping”, গৈ থকা নাই “is not going”.

The word নাই “there is not” is the same word as in ঘৰত চাহ নাই “there is no tea at home”.

This is for actions at this moment. For a habit use the simple negative: মই চাহ নাখাওঁ “I do not drink tea”.
