বুলি
Saying and Thinking: বুলি
দেউতাই না বুলি ক’লে “my father said no”, and মই সঁচা বুলি ভাবিছিলোঁ “I thought it was true”.
How It Works
The words come first and the verb comes last. This is the reverse of English, where “said” comes first.
| Words | বুলি | Verb |
|---|---|---|
| না | বুলি | ক’লে |
| সঁচা | বুলি | ভাবিছিলোঁ |
| মোক পাগল | বুলি | ভাবে |
The part before বুলি keeps the tense it had when it was said or thought. In তেওঁ মোক ভাল পায় বুলি ক’লে the quoted part is the present “he likes me”, and only the last verb, ক’লে, is past.
The words before বুলি can be one word (না “no”, সঁচা “true”) or a whole sentence. The row on যে shows the other order, with the words after যে.
