কৰিছিলোঁ / কৰিছিলা / কৰিছিল
Past Perfect Endings
মই ৰাতিপুৱা নতুন কিতাপখন পঢ়িছিলোঁ “I read the new book in the morning”.
How It Works
Compare three tenses of the same verb. কৰিছোঁ “I have done” is about now. কৰিলোঁ “I did” tells what happened. কৰিছিলোঁ goes further back. English may say “I did”, “I had done” or “I used to do”, so this form is called the past perfect only loosely.
| Person | Ending | Example |
|---|---|---|
| মই, আমি | -িছিলোঁ | কৰিছিলোঁ |
| তুমি | -িছিলা | কৰিছিলা |
| সি, তাই, তেওঁ | -িছিল | কৰিছিল |
With আপুনি you may also see -িছিলে. The same pattern works for a habit in the past: মোৰ দেউতাই ভ্ৰমণ কৰিছিল “my father used to travel”. One negative is the -া form with নাছিল, as in the row কৰা নাছিলোঁ. Written Assamese also has ন- on the verb, as in নকৰিছিল.
