লাগে / নালাগে

Needing Something

Level 2Sounds Like lāgē / nālāgē

The person takes -ক, then the thing, then লাগে or নালাগে.

How It Works

Who needsExample
মোকমোক চাহ লাগে
তোমাকতোমাক কি লাগে?
আপোনাকআপোনাক কিমান লাগে?
মোকমোক সহায় নালাগে

Think of it as “tea is needed by me”. The verb লাগে does not change for the person. The person takes -ক because the need falls on them.

The thing needed can have a classifier: মোক বেলচা এখন লাগে “I need a shovel”.

The same words can ask about a price or an amount: কিমান লাগে? “how much is needed?”.

Compare ভাল লাগে “like”, where the person takes -ৰ: মোৰ চাহ ভাল লাগে “I like tea”, but মোক চাহ লাগে “I need tea”.
